A native Hong Kong artist, she graduated with distinction in 1991 from the School of Drama of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. From 1991 to 1994, she was a full-time actress with the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre.
Her extensive stage repertoire spans numerous notable productions, including I Have a Date with Spring, The Legend of the Mad Phoenix, Love in a Fallen City, The Peach Blossom Land, Rabbit Hole, I Have a Date with Autumn, and A Dream Like a Dream; seeyousoon’s Prima Facie; Project Roundabout’s The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The Truth (both premiere and re-run); productions by the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies such as Noises Off and Amadeus; the Hong Kong Arts Festival presentation Between Life and Death; and Dionysus Contemporary Theatre’s Le Dieu Du Carnage (re-run). Among these works, I Have a Date with Spring and The Legend of the Mad Phoenix were each performed in over 100 performances. Love in a Fallen City was successfully re-created in 2002, 2005, and 2006, touring Shanghai, Beijing, New York, and Toronto, and earning her wide acclaim for her definitive portrayal of Bai Liusu. The Peach Blossom Land was staged at the Capital Theatre in Beijing in 2007, while Le Dieu Du Carnage (revival) was invited as the closing performance of the 2016 Singapore Huayi – Chinese Festival of Arts.
Her theatre accolades include Performer of the Year 2024, awarded by the International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong), as well as the Best Actress (Tragedy/Drama) award at the 33rd Hong Kong Drama Awards for Prima Facie; the Best Actress (Tragedy/Drama) award at the 12th Hong Kong Drama Awards for Between Life and Death; and Best Supporting Actress (Comedy/Farce) at the 2nd Hong Kong Drama Awards for Noises Off. In film, her recent work includes Valley of the Shadow of Death. She was also nominated for Best Actress at the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards for The Sparring Partner.
Her highlighted television credits include Plain Love II, The Awakening Story, Rear Mirror, and The Forgotten Valley.
Additional achievements include receiving the Lee Hysan Foundation Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council in 2009, which supported a year of advanced study in the United States. In 2017, she co-founded Project Roundabout with Cheung Chi-wai and Poon Chan-leung, serving as one of the conveners of its three-year artistic programme. In 2020, she curated See You Soon, an anti-pandemic play-reading theatre initiative, which received the Special Recognition from the International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong). In 2023, seeyousoon production — founded by Louisa, Poon Chan-leung, Chan Po-yu, and Chan Cheuk-wah — was awarded Outstanding Production of the Year by the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies at the 33rd Hong Kong Drama Awards for Prima Facie. Louisa has also served as a Guest Lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University.
